Plasma vs LCD vs LED vs DLP

With so many types of TVs out these days, it can be very hard to figure out exactly what you’re looking for. In this article, we are going to discuss Plasma vs LCD vs LED vs DLP to give you a better idea what each is great for; so you can decide what it is you need for your home.

First up, let’s discuss LCD and LED. The only difference between the two is that an LED TV is simply an LCD with LED backlighting instead of using florescent backlighting. Both have very low power usage, save energy and have slim designs that many customers are drawn to so they can fit them into smaller spaces or easily mount them on the wall; giving a more spacious feeling room. LED uses two types of lighting; there is Edge Lighting and Full Array Lighting. Edge Lighting is when there are backlights places around the outer edges of the screen. Full Array Lighting, which is the more preferred option, has backlights that cover the entire back of the screen. These are nice because they can turn off independently, adjusting the brightness and contrast in ways Edge Lighting simply cannot. LCD means Liquid Crystal Display. Over the years these TVs have become one of the most popular sets to purchase because of their slim design and price decreases. These TVs are typically in the same price range as Plasmas but the slim design is what makes this style more popular.

Next up is Plasma. Plasma TVs do not use backlights; but a technology called the Cathode Ray Tube. When pieces of plasma are struck by various pixels, they are turned into the designated color. These TVs have been known to overheat and have pictures “burned” into them; but are still quite popular. These TVs are great for the night because; unlike LCDS, they do not reflect light as much.

Lastly, let’s discuss DLP TVs. DLP stands for Digital Light Processing and is a technology that displays the TVs picture using a projection light, which is located at the back of the TV. These TVs are light weight and have a flat screen. These sets are not as popular as the other TVs mentioned above because they are not as stylish. However, these sets offer wonderful pictures that give you very deep blacks and vibrant colors. This is the least popular of the bunch but definitely worth mentioning. The prices on these specific sets are decent so they are a great choice for someone who needs a TV with a minimal budget.

Everyone has their own preferences and no matter what you choose, we think you are going to love your new TV. The best thing I can advice is for you to view a few of these styles in your area; test out some of the functions and don’t be afraid to ask questions. Everyone has their own preference based on when and how they view and just because something is more popular than something else, doesn’t mean it’s necessarily the correct option for you.
