If you’re looking for a simple, small tablet then the Samsung Galaxy Tab just may be what you’ve been looking for. With so many tablets coming out all the time, it’s hard to know what you’re looking for. Hopefully this review will help you better understand the Galaxy Tab and figure out what it is you’re looking for.
Before selecting a tablet, it is always a smart idea to come up with a list of things you cannot live without. This tablet doesn’t come with as much memory as some, but can be expanded up to 32 if you want to buy an SD card.
I really like how this device offers Wi-Fi instead of charging you each month to pay for internet. While the option is available through multiple carriers, I personally like the idea of it being free. If you’re away from Wi-Fi a lot, then you may need to speak with your wireless provider and see if they can add the tablet to your account.
I love how small this tablet is. The 7 inch screen is easy to read, but still easy to carry in one hand if need be. You can watch movies, browse the web, and do just about anything you can do on a computer; just on a smaller screen and with a slower processor.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab comes with a few of my personal favorite apps preinstalled: Slacker Radio, Kindle and Asphalt 5 HD. If you’ve never played a game that interacts with you when you tilt the screen, you will love playing Asphalt. It completely blew my mind when I first realized games could work that way and it’s nice to actually get to experience them yourself.
Another unique feature this tablet offers is Swype Keyboard. This allows you to type normally if you wish or turn on Swype and be able to swipe your finger across the screen in order to type. This is a tough feature to get used to, but once you have it down, you’ll be amazed how quickly you can type that way.
If you feel you may need a larger screen, I would recommend the Toshiba Thrive. Not only does the Thrive have a much better screen, but it’s also a much faster device overall if that’s what you’re looking for. The Thrive also offers HDMI output, which the Galaxy does not. With HDMI output you can view everything on your TV that is on your tablet. This is a fun feature for sharing pictures or watching videos when you are with multiple friends.
Another thing the Galaxy has issues with is connectivity. Many customers have complained that the internet isn’t quite reliable and sometimes kicks them off multiple times in a row.
Overall, this Samsung Galaxy Tab is alright but doesn’t meet my personal needs. There are many options out there and it’s best to check them all out and do some research before selecting one tablet. Many stores will let you test them out.
