When looking for a new GPS, there are a lot of things to consider. Like, how much money are you willing to spend? What features do you need? Are there features you could live without? Do you want to pay monthly or keep things simple and have free updates? Depending on your personal needs, we think the Garmin nuvi 3490LMT is the right choice for you. It has a lot of neat features but doesn’t go overboard and it comes at an amazing price that cannot be beat for the quality. Here, we are going to discuss both the good and the bad to help you pick the right GPS for you!
If you’re one of those people who enjoy having small units in your car that can stay out of the way and don’t clutter your car, then you’ll be happy to hear that this GPS is less than 9mm thick. That’s why it looks great in any car. Plus, you can make hands free calls and texts, so you can safely keep your eyes on the road while you’re keeping in contact with your friends and family. No need to pull over when your GPS can do this and even find where you’re going because it’s voice activated.
Another thing I think you’ll enjoy is the free lifetime map and traffic updates. This is something I personally have never been able to do without. This makes life so much easier and saves you a ton of money over other systems that charge you per month to update.
With lane assist and photoReal junction view, you never have to wonder if you’re in the right lane. You’ll always know. I have been in some pretty tricky situations and this feature has really saved my butt along the way. No more U Turns!
If you aren’t happy with the voices that come with this GPS, then you can choose to download your own via the microSD card. This makes everything a lot easier. Plus, if you aren’t sure where you are, you can use the “Where am I” emergency locator. Trust me, it’s embarrassing but I’ve had to do it a few times myself.
Of course with any product on the market there are going to be problems. I have noticed a few that may or may not be deal breakers for you. One thing that bothers me is the fact that the traffic can be way off. I don’t know if it’s the satellites or what, but it’s really strange. On top of that, and maybe it’s because of where I live, there have been routes that the GPS just wasn’t able to find; which was weird to me.
If this Garmin Nuvi 3490LMT doesn’t seem like the right option for you, then you may want to check out the 3790LMT. Both are great, but some prefer one to the other because of the slight difference. I hope this helps you in your GPS search. Best of luck to you!
