Two of the most important things to consider when purchasing a new Digital Camera are the price and the features that are available. There’s no point in paying for things you do not need or are rarely going to be using. At the end of the day, the choice is ultimately yours but today in our Digital Camera Buying Guide; we are going to help you figure out what kind of user you are and which type of camera would most likely meet your needs.
If you are what I like to call a ‘Basic User’, meaning you want to take photos that you can e-mail to friends, post on sites such as Facebook and have the ability to nicely print pictures as large as 8×10, then you will probably want a camera that’s easy and simple to use for the entire family. When it comes to this type of camera, you should look for something in the price range of $150 to $300. Resolution doesn’t really matter when it comes to a camera like this. A lens with at least 3X zoom or larger is important. You want to be able to have a JPEG format, the USB. You’ll probably like the focus to be automatic, as well as the exposure controls and flash modes. Things that you may like are in-camera red-eye removal, automatic exposure fix, optical or mechanical image stabilization, face detection, 720p HD movie capture with an HDMI output.

Are you the kind of person who want the nicest items, and you have the money to spare? In this case, you should go with the latest technologies and a camera like that is going to cost you at least $800. Resolution doesn’t matter at this point, but you do want a larger zoom and I would say 5X or more is better. It would be nice to have USB, HDMI and a component for your HDTV. You want your exposure controls to be automatic, as well as your flash controls and flash modes. Some cool features you may want to look out for are a sleek design, interchangeable lenses, the ability to hook up to a Webcam and an LCD screen for ultimate control. If you have a touch screen, that would be even better.
If you’re going to be using your new camera for business purposes, then you may want to spend between $250 and $500. As mentioned above, resolution doesn’t matter. The reasoning behind this is because resolutions these days on cameras are extremely nice; and it’s not the like old days where you had to spend a ton of money to get a great resolution. I would personally have a zoom of at least 5X, JPEG photo file format and USB/TV connections. Features that should be automatic on this camera should be exposure controls, focus controls and flash modes. It would be nice to have a photo editor so you can get the most out of your photos and get them the ways you never could have before. Other features you should look for at this price are world clock, HD video, HDMI output, Wi-Fi and text-capture mode.
Are you looking to spend under $200 but still have a nice camera then we have the perfect thing for you. When it comes to this type of camera, get at least a 3X optical zoom and at least a 38mm to 114mm. You’re going to want to have a USB connection as well as a TV connections. You’re going to have auto focus or fixed focus, automatic flash modes. At this price, you would need to have at least a basic photo editor so you can capture moments like you never have been able to before. You would probably also want to have Webcam capability, automatic scene modes that can optimize pictures based on your surroundings and basic video capture. The videos on these cameras probably won’t be all that great, but I personally think it’s cool to have videos than to not have any at all. Especially when trying to save money, you need to realize that all the additional features aren’t going to be as great as if you were to spend a bit more money. This camera would also be great as a back up.
There’s never been a better time to buy a camera. With the holidays right around the corner, I’m sure you’ll be amazed by what you can find. If you have the extra cash to spend, with not get two and give one to the person you care about most in your life? There are so many great options and since pictures mean 1,000 words; your memories are going to be that much greater. Remember and store experiences like never before, without forgetting a single moment.
