Are you looking for a new camera that can also take videos? Since you’re shopping around, might as well take a look at this Sony device. The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX5V may not be the right choice for those who are looking to use it for business and such, but seems to be good for beginners. There are some really neat features that I think make it worth it for most people. Here are a few important bits of information that I think you should hear about before making your final choice.
Pros
- Works great even in low lighting because of the “Exmor R” CMOS. Now you’ll never have to worry about not being able to capture those late-night shots. I love some of the beach shots I have seen at night. They come out really well.
- Amazing Recording Media. You can create fun YouTube videos and so much more. There are so many cool things you can do with this and a lot of fun features included. I think this is a major plus on this camera because it seems like everyone and their mom is on YouTube and everyone is trying to get famous. The size of this camera is great, because you can easily take it with you to document everything along the way.
- 10x optical zoom so you can capture those beautiful shots even when you aren’t very close. The memories are going to be special with this camera for sure and something you can cherish for life.
- 10.2 megapixel resolution so you can blow up your pictures without all the blurring. I came across some wonderful shots that people blew up. They looked like professional mini-posters. The way the lighting was captured, the colors; all of it. It looks so real. Makes me want to get this camera to see what I’m capable of creating.

Cons
- Many customers have complained of fuzzy pictures, so there seems to be some sort of glitch going on. There are no comments from the company at this time.
- Not compatible with Mac computers. Just to be safe, I would advise talking to your rep about what you will be using the camera for (on your TV, computer, etc) so you can make sure it’s compatible with all of your devices.
- Video quality seems much better than the actual camera, which is completely backwards since the sole purpose of this device is to take photos.
- No control over flash, making it really hard to get certain shots just right.
Conclusion
While this Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX5V may not be the right choice when it comes to taking amazing photos, it does take wonderful videos. This would be a good option for someone who is more into taking videos and isn’t too serious about their photos. I wouldn’t recommend this camera for business purposes because it may not be high enough quality for you to get the job done right. There haven’t been any updates from the company. I have heard rumors that they are working on making the pictures better. We’ll see what they come up with. All I know is, they better give discounts!
